EMBRACE TRAUMA THERAPY
Healing doesn’t have to be hard, or done alone.
At Embrace Trauma Therapy, we believe healing begins when we turn toward our pain – not away from it. Through mindful self-awareness, curiosity and compassionate presence, we help you create safety within yourself so every part of you can begin to heal and discover new ways to cope.
We provide psychological therapy focused on healing from trauma, through EMDR, IFS and parts-work, and somatic psychotherapy.
Dr Kate O’Brien is an experienced Clinical Psychologist and the founder of Embrace Trauma Therapy, working with adults navigating trauma, relational, and interpersonal challenges. She offers personalised, trauma-informed therapy in Melbourne and online throughout Australia.
Psychological therapy that supports your nervous system through curiosity, compassion and connection.
Embrace Trauma Therapy is a Clinical Psychology practice based in Melbourne. Dr Kate O’Brien offers personalised, trauma-informed therapy in-person and online, for individuals seeking deeper healing and connection.
Kate works with adults who experience PTSD, complex trauma, dissociative disorders, traumatic loss and grief, and ongoing mood and anxiety concerns. Her work is grounded in an understanding of the nervous system and how experiences shape both mind and body over time.
Kate takes a gentle, collaborative approach to therapy, supporting awareness, regulation, and integration at a pace that feels safe and sustainable. Rather than focusing on diagnosis alone, therapy is centred on understanding your experiences and working together to support meaningful, lasting change.
Individual Therapy Sessions (and Supervision)
Embrace Trauma Therapy: 0ffering trauma-informed therapy in Melbourne and online for adults seeking deeper healing and connection.
I offer individual psychological therapy for adults seeking support with trauma, difficult life experiences, dissociative disorders, complex grief, and ongoing mood and anxiety concerns. Sessions provide a steady, collaborative space to explore what you’re experiencing, strengthen awareness, and support your nervous system in a way that feels safe and manageable.
My work is grounded in trauma-informed, relational, and integrative approaches to therapy. This includes drawing from somatic and nervous system–focused frameworks, alongside evidence-based psychological therapies. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, therapy is shaped around your needs, goals, and lived experience.
I also provide clinical supervision for psychologists and allied health professionals. Supervision is offered as a reflective, relational space that supports professional development, ethical practice, and sustainable ways of working—particularly when engaging in trauma-focused care.
Heal the injured places.
Discover who you are.
Live in wholeness and peace.
I’m Dr Kate O’Brien, a Clinical Psychologist with over 13 years’ experience supporting people who have been impacted by trauma and life’s challenges. My work is grounded in an understanding of how trauma affects both the mind and body, and in the belief that healing happens best when we feel safe, supported, and understood.
At Embrace Trauma Therapy, I offer evidence-based, compassionate mental health care for people navigating mental health concerns, past trauma, and periods of overwhelm or transition. I take a calm, collaborative approach, working with your nervous system and your lived experience to help you move toward meaningful, lasting change—at a pace that feels right for you.
If you’re curious about whether this approach might be a good fit, I invite you to reach out and explore working together.
Our Values
At Embrace Trauma Therapy, we believe therapy is not about fixing you, but about getting to know yourself more fully and discovering new ways of coping. Our approach honours your life experiences and the ways your mind and body have adapted to survive.
We work collaboratively, with you at the centre of the process as the expert in your own experience. The therapist walks alongside you as a supportive guide, offering care, knowledge, and partnership along the way.
